Services: Wills
Do you know who will inherit your money, and if you have young children, who will give them a home and look after their financial interest in the event of your death?
ALL ADULTS SHOULD MAKE A WILL NOW!
Parents of young children should make Wills, if only to appoint Guardians to take over the responsibility of parents and to appoint Trustees to look after money for the children until they are old enough, should both parents die.
Married couples should make Wills even if they wish all their estate to go to the survivor. This is especially so if there are children, a parent, brothers or sisters, or even nephews and nieces in the family.
Married couples (especially those without children) who have not made Wills leave it to chance as to which Spouses family will inherit their joint estate depending on which spouse dies first. Who would inherit if you died together in a travel accident?
Single people without children often wish to benefit the younger generation with their estate. If they have not made a Will then the law provides that their parents will inherit before brothers and sisters, and brother and sisters will inherit before nephews and nieces.
The Law makes no provision for a surviving PARTNER to inherit on the death of a Partner to whom they are not married.
A properly drawn Will leaves nothing to chance. It would appoint Executors to look after your Estate. It could make provision for beneficiaries to cover alternative eventualities and to provide for the unexpected. Guardians could be appointed to look after young children and provide them with a home and education. A Will can give necessary powers to the Trustees, for example, the support and education of children.
